About our smoky dry ice bar

A smoky dry ice bar serves drinks wrapped in a soft, rolling mist that spills over the glass and across the counter. It is one of the most requested experiences for sangeet nights, cocktail evenings, receptions and New Year parties in Delhi, and it photographs beautifully.

The effect comes from dry ice, which is frozen carbon dioxide. It is safe when handled correctly, and that is exactly what our trained staff do: dry ice never goes into a drink a guest will swallow, it is handled only with insulated gloves and tongs, and we use it only in well-ventilated spaces. Below, we explain how it works and how we keep it safe.

How the smoky effect works

Dry ice is carbon dioxide frozen to about minus 78°C. When it meets warmer liquid, it turns straight into gas, creating a dense, white fog that rolls downwards because it is heavier than air. Behind the bar, we use this in ways that keep the dry ice away from what guests drink:

  • Double-vessel presentation: the drink sits in a glass placed inside a larger vessel containing dry ice and water, so the mist surrounds the drink without touching it.
  • Counter and station effects: mist flows across the bar top or from a decorative bowl, framing the drinks being served.
  • Infusion cloches and smoke domes: aromatic smoke or mist is captured briefly over a drink and released in front of the guest.
Safety procedures we follow

Dry ice is safe in trained hands and dangerous in untrained ones. Our procedures:

  1. Dry ice is handled only with insulated gloves and tongs, never bare hands, because it causes cold burns on contact.
  2. No dry ice goes into a drink a guest will swallow. We use double-vessel and station methods so it never enters the glass. Swallowing even a small pellet can cause serious internal injury.
  3. Drinks are handed over only after the visible effect has settled, with a clear word to the guest.
  4. Dry ice is stored in ventilated, insulated containers, never in an airtight box, because the gas builds pressure.
  5. We use it only in well-ventilated spaces, keep quantities controlled, and avoid low, enclosed or basement areas where carbon dioxide could collect.
  6. Dry ice is kept out of reach of children and guests, and leftovers are disposed of safely after the event.
Where the dry ice bar works best

Evening events with dim lighting show the mist at its best. Open-air venues and large halls with good airflow are ideal. Small, closed rooms, basements and areas without ventilation are not suitable, and we will suggest an alternative presentation in those cases.

Pairing the effect with the menu

The mist works with almost any drink, but it looks particularly striking with clear or brightly coloured cocktails and mocktails. Many hosts choose one or two signature drinks to serve with the effect, so the moment feels special rather than constant.

Pricing

The smoky dry ice presentation is an add-on to any package, and is included as an option in the Luxury package. Every event is quoted to your guest count, menu and venue. Ask for a free, itemised quote.

Responsible service and licensing

State excise laws govern serving, transporting and storing alcohol, and rules differ between states and venues. Often the venue or a licensed caterer supplies and serves alcohol; your quotation will state clearly who supplies beverages. We guide you on the permissions to check, and we serve only where it is permitted, to guests of legal drinking age.

Questions

Smoky Dry Ice Bar: questions

See all questions

Is a dry ice cocktail safe to drink?
Yes, when served our way. Dry ice never goes into a drink a guest will swallow: we use a double-vessel or station presentation so the mist surrounds the glass without entering it. Drinks are handed over only after the visible effect has settled.
Can you use dry ice indoors?
In large, well-ventilated indoor spaces, yes. Carbon dioxide can collect in small, closed rooms or basements, so we check ventilation beforehand and use controlled quantities. Where a space is unsuitable, we suggest an alternative presentation.
Will the smoke set off fire alarms?
Dry ice fog is condensed water vapour and carbon dioxide, not smoke, and it usually does not trigger smoke detectors. Some sensitive detectors can react to dense fog, so we check with the venue and keep the effect localised to the bar.
Is the dry ice bar suitable for children's parties?
The effect is fun to watch, but dry ice is always kept behind the bar and out of guests' reach. For events with many children, we keep the presentation at the counter and serve their drinks without dry ice.
